Sacrifice
WWII veterans are among the honored dead at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, known as the “Punchbowl”. The Hawaiian name for the cemetery is "Puowaina," which translates to "Hill of Sacrifice." As a remembrance of their sacrifice, each year on Memorial Day, volunteers make flower leis, and place them - along with flags - on each gravesite.
